Hair relaxer in the SF Bay Area, Peninsula?

Hello, I have very curly hair. I am half black, half white. I am looking for a good hair saloon to have my hair relaxed. I do not want it straight, I just want my curls to me more manageble. I live in Palo Alto. Any suggestions of hair saloons or relaxer. I have been to two hair saloons, Juut and LaBelle, but neither do relaxing for my hair :\

Thanks.Hair relaxer in the SF Bay Area, Peninsula?

  • What is the best hair relaxer?

i have wavy curly hair and want to relax it now.

whats the best product i can use? What is the best hair relaxer?
wELL IM A aFRICAN aMERICAN GIRL AND I WOULD RECCOMEND THE OLIVE OIL RELAXER ..BUT I STOPPED USING RELAXERS BECAUSE IT DOES DAMAGE YOUR HAIR NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE RELAXER IS GOODLUCK HUN:)What is the best hair relaxer?
If your hair is just ';wavy curly'; it's most likely not the best idea to get a relaxer. Relaxers do damage to any hair type over time, but with your hair type, you'd do some serious immediate damage. Just use a ceramic flat iron once a week/every two weeks if you really want straight hair.
    id try chi realxer

I'm a boy with really curly hair, and I wanted to know what hair relaxer works best.?

I have really curly latino hair. I want the best relaxer, to straighten it, but I don't want it to be harsh. The ones on the stores are for really curly hair, my hair isn't that curly. Please give me a link for the product. Please don't suggest a hair staightener, bc i don't have time to do it in the morning and I kinda suck at it.I'm a boy with really curly hair, and I wanted to know what hair relaxer works best.?
take mark. proffesionals sleek and straight no iron serum and make your hands like a flat iron, and apply. works 4 me!! lol.I'm a boy with really curly hair, and I wanted to know what hair relaxer works best.?
    honestly, girl shampoo works.

    herbal essences

    Pantene Pro V

    Sunsilk
    curly hair is cute
get a good cut that goes with the curls; girls love curly hair
let me tell you something.........CURLY HAIR ON GUYS IS HOT!!!!!! sorry i had to get that out. you should consider keeping it curly. I have curly hair too and i hate it.i know what you mean. try to keep away from wet hair products that will make your curls tighter.i guess its the latino because no matter what hair products i try i CANT GET MY FREAKIN HAIR STRAIGHT!!!!! i suggest keeping it the way it is. sorry bro
I don't like that I have super-curly hair, in fact it has been referred to as Black peoples' hair. My only remedy for that was to grow it out and put massive amounts of L.A. Looks gel into my wet hair, then shook my head around, giving me that fresh-out-of-the-shower look. For some reason, that's a really good remedy. Right now, though, I have dreadlocks (only one week today) and that really helps with my hair flying around on its own.

Has anyone done a hair relaxer ? does it work ?

i don't resally know much about hair relaxers,

but what will it do ?

will it make my hair less poofy/thick ?

is it healthy for your hair ?

about how much does it cost ?

are there any places near mississauga or any at home kits ?

will i tmake my hair straight ?

has anyone with super thick curly poofy hair done this, and has it worked, made it worse or the same ?Has anyone done a hair relaxer ? does it work ?
For black people it makes your hair straight, white people I believe it makes it curly. I do use a home kit I get it at walmart or any beauty supply store it only cost about $5 or $6 , it can damage your hair if you don't do it correctly...for me it straightens my hair and makes it shinier.Has anyone done a hair relaxer ? does it work ?
I had like afro curly hair that stood up and I used one when I was 13 and it made my hair straight for a while, then it started to get curly again, but pretty curls going down instead of up! It does change the texture of you hair but it depends on what type of hair you have. Its not good for your hair though, so don't do it a lot, (you can do touch ups). And its not to expensiv(under $10.00) (Do a test on a little bit of hair though to make sure it dont break your hair!)After a while you may need to use a flat iron, but It really changed my hair for the better, and now I dont even use them anymore! My hair is soo long now it just grows in pretty curls!
I got my hair permed for the first time and it does make your hair less poof y(depending on your type of hair) it will be more fragile since it slightly strips your proteins and shaft of your hair, if you wrap your hair and keep it mosturized you can keep it healthy but its chemical so that means its not completly good for your hair it depends on who's your hairstylist how much it cost it shouldn't cost anymore than $65(that's by going to a salon) you can use home kits and it will make your hair straight you have to keep it in (follow direction on boxes) if it burns cuz it probably will rinse it and you have to wrap it and mosturize it and you'll probably notice shedding because your natural hair the results were good for me put it burned lyk krazy so it was rinsed out early and i heard if you scratch your head b4 u get a perm u irritate the scalp so just tap ur head if it itches hope i helped:)

What is a cheap at home hair relaxer that works?

i need to know which relaxers work best at a fair priceWhat is a cheap at home hair relaxer that works?
While it would be best to go to a good licensed beautician, there are several good brands that can be used at home. The first and most important thing you need to decide though is whether or not you want to use lye or no lye. If you want to use lye, I would recommend Silk Elements. You do have to buy the neutralizing shampoo and deep conditioning treatments separately though. But all are reasonably priced. If you choose no-lye, Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil relaxers are good. Because it is a boxed relaxer, it will have all the components, but if you have long are coarse hair, it may not be enough, so you may need two boxes. Whatever you choose, be sure to read all the directions first and if possible, use a friend to help.

What are some opinions about the Chi hair relaxer? Results? How to take care of it? Best ways to manage it?

I considered a smart alec answer, but then I decided to be nice.

You asked the question in the wrong section. This section is Books. So, you probably won't get many responses.

Good off the shelf hair relaxer?

I'm white and have really frizzy wavy hair and I want to have pin straight hair so I don't have to straighten it everyday. Whats a good off the shelf hair relaxer for my hair? I cant go to a salon because I really can't afford it because I'm a single mother with youngin's at home and everything's about them ya know. Also Ive never used a chemical relaxer before so I'm new at this.Good off the shelf hair relaxer?
relaxers are pretty much the same, except for the strengths. Once you get it straight its going to be about the conditioners and styling products you choose to use to keep your hair healthy.

  • Hair relaxer on permanent blonde colour?

I have tinted blonde hair ash coloured get roots done every 3 weeks in salon would i be suitable candidate for relaxer as my hair is curly and unmanageable i was going to try organic root stimulater no lye relaxer!Hair relaxer on permanent blonde colour?
Don't relax. I had blonde highlights. A couple of months later I relaxed my hair and my hair broke off. It was a disaster. It was uneven and dry. I deal with my curly hair now. You might want to learn how to manage your curly hair. I love my hair now, but it is a long process. Let me know if you want any websites for curly hair.Hair relaxer on permanent blonde colour?
If you want to melt the hair you have, by all means do it. But in all honesty, it is not recommended unless you want short hair. I mean very short hair.
NO NO NO don't do it or you will have no hair. Blonde hair and relaxer can never mix unless you are a natuaral blonde.

Do I want to use a Hair Relaxer?

First off I'm a guy, I'm not sure how many guys use hair relaxers but I just recently heard about them and thought I'd ask. I've always liked having long hair, but my hair is very thick and somewhat curly / wavy. Point being, it isn't straight. I hear hair relaxers can make your hair straight without using a straightener. Is this true? Can anyone give me a little more information? Thanks.Do I want to use a Hair Relaxer?
do not get a relaxer unless you are black or have very course hair like a black or dominican person. I am black and they are harsh on my hair and they are even harsher on non black hair. Just get a flat iron and do your hair with that.Do I want to use a Hair Relaxer?
dont do it, those are the same chemicals you use to unclog drainss. and a relaxer is a acid. www.nappturality.com

What is a hair relaxer and can anyone use it?

A hair relaxer ';relaxes'; the natural curl you have in your hair. It generally takes a long time to do at the hairdresser and can be very costly. However, it is not only for African Americans. Depending on the type, anyone can have it done. I did it a couple of years ago and it totally fried my hair. If you're looking for straight hair just go with the CHI flat iron. I swear by it.What is a hair relaxer and can anyone use it?
Actually, my answer was the best.

What is a hair relaxer and can anyone use it?
hair relaxer takes curls out of your hair and it is made specifically for african american hair

i'd talk to a salon about it though
It depends on your hair type, and if you have anything ,recently done to your hair chemical wise, like Hair Color or Highlights, if you put another chemical on it will break off your hair, and fall off in chunks. So if you are going to Straighten or Relax your hair ,Do not mix Color with it.Not good on Dry brittle hair.
anyone can use it but if i was u i wouldnt because it damages it for life

well not 4 life but yeah

its sort of like a gel
IT'S THE SAME FORMULA AS A PERM BUT IT DOES THE EXACT OPPOSITE,I USED ONE AND WHEN i WASHED MY HAIR IT DIDN'T STAY STRAIGHT SO i DON'T RECOMMEND USING THEM.
A relaxer is a chemical process that straightens curly, kinky hair. The STORE version is primarily used on African American hair types. A variation of relaxers are available in salons for a variety of other hair types. It comes in a kit that consists of the chemicals which are mixed. The mixture becomes a cream and resembles something similar to cake frosting. Its extremely caustic (can cause burns, injuries to the skin) so imagine what it can do to hair if not used properly. It is then applied to the hair (from roots to end if it is the first time being used OR on the roots-new growth of hair which is still natural but 'needs' to be straightened)

The hair, in essence, is being damaged to a certain degree to achieve a tolerable level of 'a straight' and 'smooth' texture. Once that is done, it is rinsed out and washed with a ph balancing shampoo so that the chemical is being neutralized (the chemical is being washed out).

The popularity is due to the fact that alot of hairstyles feature relaxed hair and many young african american women really have no clue what to do with their hair. Braids, curls and twists are still popular but often times people think its easier to just relax it.
Well i thinlk that a hiar relaxer relaxes your hiar duh! but i don't know if you should use it i mean i heard that alot of chemicals can ruin your hair

When you are expecting, is it ok to get a hair relaxer?

It is likely that only a small amount of any hair treatment chemicals are actually absorbed into a woman鈥檚 system through her skin. This minimal amount is not thought to be enough to create a problem for the baby. The following safety tips should be followed when chemically treating your hair:

Consider waiting until the second trimester.

Have the treatment completed in a well-ventilated area.

Don鈥檛 leave the chemicals on your head any longer than necessary.

Rinse your scalp thoroughly with water after treatment.

Wear gloves when applying chemicals. When you are expecting, is it ok to get a hair relaxer?
As long as you are out of the first trimester. The doctor told me not to dye my hair or do anything to it with chemicals until the second trimester because the hormone levels even out then. If you do it before then, it may not be the results you are looking for (ex: my hair turned a greenish brown color when I tried to bleach it at 13 weeks.) so it is best to wait until the second trimester. Everyone says it isn't good to dye or relax your hair when prego but studies have not proven it causes any harm to the baby. Go ahead and do it. I dye my hair every month and have for years. My son is fine, and so far so is this one. When you are expecting, is it ok to get a hair relaxer?
Why do people thumbs-down answers that say wait until the baby is born?? Is it THAT bad to just wait it out because of the chemicals and because hair tends to dye differently while pregnant? Good Lord!! Just wait until the baby comes!!!

Go ahead posters who could care less about the baby's safety and well-being and thumbs-down my answer!!
they say to stay away from it but you can do it i had a hard time getting my hair to do anything until i got pregnant i went and dyed it and the color was great but for some people the color don't turn out so whatever you do to your hair be very carful
I've wondered the same thing! I've looked online and talked to my doctor. She said it's fine, but there's a chance the perm may not hold due to hormonal changes that affect my hair. Sooo...I'm just going to wait until after I give birth to get one done.
A lot of people will tell you to stay away from the relaxer while you are pregnant. I had my hair permed when I was pregnant with my son, and will be getting one in a couple of weeks after I take my braids out.
it is best not to have any chemicals put in your hair while pregnant, I would recomend waiting until after the baby is born and you are not nursing.
I am due feb. 6 and have relaxed my hair every six weeks since i found out doc said it is okay. I plan to relax my hair one more time before my baby shower which is jan. 17
You should wait till you have your baby.

Theres all sorts of chemicals and stuff that could harm your child.
They say to stay away from getting your hair dye'd and all that kinds of stuff.
I heard your not supposed to...dont know why but id advise you not to...

Does anyone know hair relaxer (Afro hair) that contains black hair dye?

I want to relax me hair and bye it black?Does anyone know hair relaxer (Afro hair) that contains black hair dye?
    yeah there is profectiv

or proactive i think its called,

the shampoo has black hair rinse in it, but its only temporary

Do you regret getting a hair relaxer?

I never had a relaxer for my hair!!

but when I turned 30 I wanted to try something different

and its been about 4 years since and i regret it I hate the condition of my hair. It changed everything!!! Im biracial and i wore my hair natural

    up until 30

so my advice to everyone never get a relaxer!!!!

does anyone feel the same.Do you regret getting a hair relaxer?
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that!! Hair relaxers are very damaging to your hair. You should have been consulted and strand tested before it was done. I don't like them either. Try deep conditioners and hot oil treatments. This should help some. Make sure you are getting the dead ends cut every 6-8 weeks, and just try and be gentle with it. Good luck hon, I hope it gets better for you.

  • I have a demonstration speech to give @ school and i want to use how to mix hair relaxer?

I need help with the outline of the prject the insticutions I already have for the mixturt of te hair relaxerI have a demonstration speech to give @ school and i want to use how to mix hair relaxer?
    Start with your introduction. Eg: ';Hair relaxing is a very common treatment. People with coarse or curly hair use hair relaxing treatments in order to get smooth hair.';

    Now, give a brief mention as to what hair relaxing treatment is. Eg: ';After completing a hair relaxing treatment, the client will have smoother hair. Hair relaxing formula includes the following ingredients ____________. A relaxing treatment usually takes 45 minutes.';

    Mention each ingredient (in order that you would mix them). Perhaps you could mention the use for each ingredient. Eg: ';When preparing the relaxing treatment, you first measure out a pint of ingredient x. Ingredient x forms the base and it's acidity helps in the overall relaxing treatment. Then we will add some of y. Y functions as a conditioning agent.';

    Now how you'd apply it, ';once we've mixed x,y and z together, we cover the client's hair in it. It is important to do this in a highly ventilated area, since the fumes are noxious. You should also periodically check on the client to ensure that their hair is responding well to the treatment and it is not damaged. After 45 minutes, rinse the clients hair and condition it. Now you should be able to style it.';

    Perhaps mention some counterindications. Eg: ';You should not apply relaxing treatment to clients with highly damaged hair, bleached hair. If you have a pregnant client, you may want to suggest that they discuss this treatment with their doctor as their may be negative side effects.';

I actually know nothing about relaxing treatments, so obviously you'll have to fill in the details. When writing your outline break it into sections (intro, ingredients, application, counterindications). Under each of these headings use point form and note things you'll say. Unless your teacher tells you otherwise, point form would do.

What is a good hair relaxer?

I have very curly strawberry chocolatey blonde hair and i like my curls but somtimes it just is too big and drives me a bit crazy. Does anyone know a lotion of cream for your hair that is inexpensive but relaxes uncontrollable hair well? What is a good hair relaxer?
I don't know, but I do know that when we were kids, some of my ex-friends would put butterflies in a ';relaxing'; jar with lighter fluid, and that would kill the butterflies into ';relaxing'; them so pins could be put through their bodies for display!

    Hope I helped!

Best hair relaxer for white person with curly hair?

Im looking for the BEST hair relaxer that is recommended to use at home. I've used relaxers before and even had it done at a salon...but it didnt straighten my hair...I want one that will make my hair straight without the frizzies. Any suggestions would be helpful.Best hair relaxer for white person with curly hair?
You will never get the results you are hoping for. Genetics gave you what you got. I have heard of another stylist using a product called Simply Straight and the only thing she had to do in the morning to have straight hair was blow dry with a round brush. This is not cheap and is only available in salons. If you want silky straight hair get yourself a chi flat iron. It will not damage your hair like the chemicals in relaxers will.Best hair relaxer for white person with curly hair?

Should I reapply my hair relaxer today?

I'm an African American female and yesterday I applied a relaxer and left if on for about 20 minutes. I did not use all the activator and the relaxer did not take well? Should I reapply it today?Should I reapply my hair relaxer today?
Nope wait for at least a month then apply it first to the new growth and the apply it on the rest hair at the last 2 to 5max (this is really damaging though) an then rinse the hair and shampoo 3 times on the 3rd shampoo leave the neutralizing shampoo for 5 min. After 3 days do a protein treatment like ion reconstructor or loreal hair fixer (sallys).Good luck.Should I reapply my hair relaxer today?
no that will be too harsh

wait a month before you do that

in the meanwhile you can straighten you hair with blow dryer and a flat ironer

But remember to put hair protecter to protect the hair from heat

Remember african american hair is the most fragile so be careful

maybe you can rethink putting a relaxer
No, that will damage your hair badly. Wait at least a couple months before trying to re-apply one.In the mean time, use a flat iron or a big round brush and blow dry and get a heat protector to apply before doing it.
it would be to hard on your hair. I would wait a few weeks at least...

  • Has anyone tried Hawaiian Silky Hair Relaxer?

I want to know if anyone in here ever tried hawaiian silky hair relaxer before? and i only wannak now from black people becuz by me askin this question they will know excatly what im talkin about and how to answer my question...tell me all the good facts about it.Has anyone tried Hawaiian Silky Hair Relaxer?
It is a good brand, one thats been around a while so it is perfected. It is one of the only relaxers on the market that has conditioners in it so the effects are not as damaging, and any one with a medium to coarse texture can use it. If you are planning to use it on your hair, timing is everything, five to ten minutes will loosen a curl, but fifteen to twenty will completely straighten. If your hair is short you can comb it through with a large tooth comb and get the same effects as an ';s'; curl.

Make sure you buy the shampoo and conditioner of the same brand to use immediatedly after.

Does getting a hair relaxer damage your hair?

i have really, puffy, curly hair and i hate it...i want to be able to use my hair without having to add any gel or hairspray. I heard that hair relaxers really work but i also heard they damage your hair. What should i do?Does getting a hair relaxer damage your hair?
    they do work:

they make you're hair straight [= you get them about once every 2 weeks.

over time they do damage your hair =/ my mom's hair is very damaged from it now (she's 52) . it makes it thinner/and can even fall out =[

if you already have sensitive hair, i suggest not using it because very sensitive hair can be damaged even the first time quite drastically! =O such as falling out.

good luck! :DDoes getting a hair relaxer damage your hair?
Yes. Your putting chemicals on your hair, that breaks the bond of your hair. It's actually quite damaging.

If you get a relaxer, You'll still have to flat iron it. Personally, I would just use a straightner, and forget chemicals. I got a relaxer, and it didn't do much to my hair.

I'm hispanic and I want to try a hair relaxer because if i don't straight iron my hair its PUFFFY and wavy !. Is there a hair relaxer for hispanics ? does it matter ? , please and thank you !Is there a hair relaxer for hispanics?
The ethinicity doesn't really matter when using relaxers.

I use Dr. Miracle, you could try that. It's in CVS if you have one near you.Is there a hair relaxer for hispanics?
Just use baby relaxers (Just For Me, etc) but leave it on for HALF the time recommended. That's what I do. Hair is hair, but I assume your hair is not as nappy a black people, though some Hispanics have a lot of black in them so I don't know. Just leave it on 7 minutes and you should be fine.
There really is not a separate relaxers for just Hispanics. I suggest you go to an African American salon and have someone evaluate your hair type.

    Hope this Helps!!!
You can Japanese straighten it. Search it online.

There are several good relaxers on the market today. You can try Bone-Straight Super hair relaxer if your hair is extremely kinky, but if moderately kinky try Bone-Straight regular relaxer..Or you could try African-Pride it comes in super and regular formula also. Or try fabu-laxer or Optima or Bantu or Ultra Sheen, or Precise, Gentle Treatment, all the above come in a regular or super formula and are no-lye relaxers and if you only want a taming try one of those relaxers designed for children they also come in regular and super formula's. All the above relaxers come with their own accessories too, shampoo, conditioner, style aids. good look with your hair

Should I be using a hair relaxer?

Should I be using A hair relaxer? My hair is SO damaged its brittle and super dry.My hair is frizzy and curly but its not kinky also my hair is not thick or thin its kinda in between. My ethnicity is Black And Filipino please help me do I need to use A relaxer?Should I be using a hair relaxer?
No if your hair is brittle and really dry do not get a relaxer... make sure you moisturize it everyday or every other day to get it moisturized... There are texturizers that are better for your hair to make it easier to manage and comb thru. considering that you are black and filibino and your hair is not nappy i think that if anything a texturizer would be ok. But embrace your hair and get deep conditioning treatments to make your dry brittle hair healthier before you put ANY chemicals in it. :) good luckShould I be using a hair relaxer?
No, you just need a hair conditioner

What would be a good hair relaxer for a little girl age 4.?

Her mom doed not want to use chemicals but wants to make it a little managable to comb through, it is extremly curly and thick. What would be a good hair relaxer for a little girl age 4.?
they sell sprays that u just spray in and comb one is called top 10 in blue bottle and there is one for kids something about an octopus What would be a good hair relaxer for a little girl age 4.?
Why doesn't she just get it cut so it's manageable? =/

I don't know a lot about curly and thick hair, but I do know for straight hair, you can get it thinned. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to do the same or something similar for curly hair.
WELL THERE IS A PERM CALLED JUST FOR ME SO IDK BUT THAT IS WHAT I USED WHEN I WAS JUST LIKE 3 MY HAIR WAS LIKE THAT AND UHM I THINK THAT IS THE BEST ONE
use a texturizer it has less chemicals then like a perm

and it gets the hair well managed

I have an assingment on find the different types of hair relaxer and some info?

    2.types

4.any other added informationI have an assingment on find the different types of hair relaxer and some info?
Why have you asked this question so many times??????I have an assingment on find the different types of hair relaxer and some info?
    Who invented the relaxer?

Garrett Augustus Morgan around 1910 stumbled upon what would become his contribution to hair care products.

While working in a sewing machine repair shop attempting to invent a new lubricating liquid, Morgan wiped his hands on a wool cloth., returned the next day and found the woolly textured of the cloth smooth out. Then he tried it on his Airedale dog, (known for curly textured hair) and the effect was successfully duplicated.

Morgan then tried his lubricating liquid on himself, called it a ';hair refining cream';, and thus patented the first chemical hair straightener.

The are three types of relaxers.

Sodium Hydroxide is the strongest type of chemical used.

Comes in Mild, Regular, and Super Strenghts.

Guanidine Hydroxide is the mildest. It's really known as a no-lye relaxer. Comes in Mild, Regular, and Super Strenghts.

Ammoniumthiglycolate, which requires a pre-shampooing before applying .
TCB no lye/no mix relaxer- straightens african american women hair, made with olive, aloe, and henna.

Lusters Pink Smooth Touch New Growth Relaxer Kit, Super Formula- super means it is for coarse hair, straightens african american women hair, not recommend or bleached hair, comes in regular, medium and super formula.

  • Does the ';hawaian silky'; hair relaxer works good on thick, coarse hair?

I have thick, coarse long hair, been off a relaxer for 2 years now. my past relaxers was fiberguard+affirm and vital.Does the ';hawaian silky'; hair relaxer works good on thick, coarse hair?
I am a hair stylist in Los Angeles. I would suggest sticking with Affirm relaxer. It's made for sensitive scalps and to me, it works the best.Does the ';hawaian silky'; hair relaxer works good on thick, coarse hair?
I used to use hawaiian silky. I had no problem with it. Just make sure you are not only over processing. Only put on new growth. That is key. and a good conditioner and neuralizer after. Good luck!
umm dik about hawaian silky but my hair stylist uses proclaim on my hair and not to be a rasicst butmy hair comes out like white people hair

If i don't wanna wear the gloves for a hair relaxer, will the chemicals ruin my acrylic nails?

Pretty Much. just wear the gloves. your hands will be ruined %26amp; your nails. they tell you to wear gloves for a reason. If i don't wanna wear the gloves for a hair relaxer, will the chemicals ruin my acrylic nails?
    Wear the gloves.

If I use the Just For Me hair relaxer, how long should I wait before washing it? Can I still swim everyday?

    1. I am not half-white, half-black or black, I am white.

    2. I have extremely curly, frizzy hair that is really unmanageable.

    3. I have used this before, and it worked at first, but I washed my hair the morning after getting it relaxed; it was too greasy. If I use the Just For Me hair relaxer, how long should I wait before washing it? Can I still swim everyday?
You should probably wait a couple days before you go swimming, and when you do its best that you wear a swim cap since you've used a chemical relaxer, otherwise you'll have to wash it everyday as well. If you don't want to wear a swim cap, then wet your hair with reg water then put conditioner on your hair to protect it SOME from the salt/chlorine water. Wash immediately after you're finished with water play and deep condition.

If you plan on spending the summer in the water, I would hold on relaxing until school starts again. If I use the Just For Me hair relaxer, how long should I wait before washing it? Can I still swim everyday?
Relaxer is a chemical. If you can't look at your roots yourself to see if the hair is straight, then you can wait until it burns slightly, but even then it could still be unfinished.

I would advise you to not swim for at least a few days, and afterwards you would still have to flat iron to get it back straight. You can wash at a max of every other week, that's what I do and any longer I would feel disgusting. Good luck

I have hair relaxer scalp burn on large areas of my head, they are hard and alot of my hair is stuck?

im really worried.i have been using vitamin e oil and aloe vera for the past 4days but nothing is really happening.i have never been burnt like this.large areas of my hair are stuck to my scalp. and my scalp is hurting tooI have hair relaxer scalp burn on large areas of my head, they are hard and alot of my hair is stuck?
Go to your doctor. They should be able to help and will give you some special burn cream so you don't have to make do with vitamin e and aloe vera. The prescription stuff will be so much better for you.

Don't try relaxing your hair again any time soon!I have hair relaxer scalp burn on large areas of my head, they are hard and alot of my hair is stuck?
You need to go to a dermatologist not just your regular doctor because they may have a littel more knowledge as to what to do. I had the same thing happen to me and unfortunatly your hair may fall out. I had to get steriod injection in the area for my hair to grow back. If you went to a salon and got your hair done you need to go back to them and have them pay for your doctors visits.

Has a hair relaxer killed someone before?

Ok this is a little funny but I'm kinda of having a dispute with my roommate about using perms. Her hair is very damaged and will not grow, yet she keeps using relaxers because she feels as though there is nothing wrong with relaxers. I want to prove that relaxers are dangerous. So please tell me if a hair relaxer has ever killed someone....Has a hair relaxer killed someone before?
It could certainly kill you if you ate it. It could also cause second degree burns and blindness.

If you want to give your roommate a visual of what she is now doing to her hair, have her watch you use Nair to remove the hair on your legs. The two both have the same active ingredients (some sort of strong base, Ca(OH)2, NaOH-lye, etc.) and pretty much work the same way. You are denaturing (breaking the bonds) a protein, either to the point where the cuticle of the hair hangs limp (straight) or the point where it is completely disintegrated (hair removal).

Relaxing damaged hair is pointless. It is already broken down; the only thing that you can do at that point is to cut it off. If she insists that she wants a relaxer (it is her choice), she should know that she should ONLY have it done (ESPECIALLY THE TOUCHUPS) by a competent professional.Has a hair relaxer killed someone before?
omg nooo lol a hair relaxer has never killed anyone.... the only thing it will do that is damaging at ALL is damage her hair. esp if her hair is already damaged and she keeps using relaxers on it. this could break off a lot of her hair. and when you use a relaxer, the next time you do it you just put it on the newgrowth and using it on the whole head can cause even more damage
Not unless that have an allergic reaction to the chemicals. She needs to change her hair care routine if her hair is damaged, she could cut back on the relaxing, but she has to have other bad habits contributing.
I have never heard of anyone die frome that, but my husband use to

use them and it did the same thing to his hair . I recamend eather stop useing them or get something else that is not so harsh.
Hair Chemicals aren't THAT Dangerous. Only for the hair.

Shoul I use a hair relaxer on my nappy thick lstino hair?

My hair is not curly, but it is a bit wavy and frizzy. I want to try a hair relaxer. What do you recomend. I have used sunsilk and it doesn't work. I have to use Biosilk and straighten my hair everyday. HELP!Shoul I use a hair relaxer on my nappy thick lstino hair?
i would recommend to go to a salon, get it done there and buy a ceramic hair straightener, they work wonderful, my hair is curly but soft curly and i get it relaxed once a year and use the hair straightener quite often, the hair looks fine and i still dye my hair and my hair doesnt look damaged.Shoul I use a hair relaxer on my nappy thick lstino hair?
oh yeah. If it is closer to biracial (Black/White) hair, then it will be smooth and have a slight wave to it. If it is kinky, it will straighten well. Or better yet, dont process at all. Besides, the length of time processing is the same as flat ironing

  • Whats the difference between hair relaxer and rebonding?

i have elbow length long wavy, medium (thickenss) hair.

i have heard from people that after rebonding your hair dosent grow back as healthy as before.it damages the hair and after sometime you end up with terrible hair(in 3 or 4 years).so if anyone has a rebonding done please let me know if this is true.

does rebonding cause excess hair fall?

what about relaxers.is it safe? how long does hair relaxer last.Whats the difference between hair relaxer and rebonding?
i usually get relaxers like every 2 months. it rexaxes your curls and gives you straight hair. for most it dry's out your natural texture. so your left with striaght dry hair that needs alot of moisturizing. your new growth is what causes me to get it every two months because the rest of the hair permantly stays straight. if you want straight hair please don;t get a relaxer get a quality ceramic flat iron. its less damage,

Can I apply a hair relaxer to my daughter's hair after I have applied a texture softener ?

I put a Just for me texture softener on my daughter's hair a little over 6 months ago. Now, I want to put a hair relaxer on her hair because the texture softener did not really do what I wanted it to. Is it safe to do this? Can I apply a hair relaxer to my daughter's hair after I have applied a texture softener ?
Honestly, texture softener isn't a relaxer. Texture softeners basically make your hair softer. It depends on what your daughter's hair type is, though. The texture softener (supposedly) has made your daughter's hair less dry, more smooth, and softer. The relaxer... can damage your hair though. Relaxers are designed for African hair - crispy, dry, tightly curled hair. I'd recommend thermal reconditioning as an alternative to hair relaxers. Can I apply a hair relaxer to my daughter's hair after I have applied a texture softener ?
Since its been about six months, the texturizer should have grown out by now, so its safe to go ahead and apply a mild relaxer to hair. Something like a PCJ. Im assuming the texturizer didn't make her hair softer and more mangeable like you were trying to achieve. The mild relaxer should do this, but you must remember to wash and conditioner her hair on a regular basis in order to maintain her hair and keep it from becoming brittle. Also use use a nice grease like ';Blue Magic'; or ';Royal Crown'; when combing her hair. This will also keep it it soft and moistrized.

P.S. Use relaxer about every 2-3 months
no no no no no bad idea
you have to read the instructions for the relaxer cause some of them have different rules
I agree with Bic, take her to a professional. I'm getting flashbacks of my mom cutting my hair when I was a kid AGH!!!
Yes. Enough time has elapsed, so you won't be doing any damage.
it depends on her age there are straightener especially for kids

please take her to a hairdresser before you ruin her hair.
    yes

How do i prepare my hair for a hair relaxer at the salon ?

its my first time getting i hair relaxer

what do i need t do to prepare my hair?

do i wash my hair before going

    do i leave it natural

does it need to be clean? How do i prepare my hair for a hair relaxer at the salon ?
No.. Don't wash it or put product in it...

At most, wash it a day or so before you have it relaxed...

the reason being, you don't want to overstimulate your scalp, because it will be more sensitive, and it may cause a bit of burning to your head.

The stylist will gently wash your hair there if needed, without overstimulating your scalp, and proceed with the service. How do i prepare my hair for a hair relaxer at the salon ?
It depends when you are getting this relaxer but i'm going to have to say no. I wouldn't wash because while getting a relaxer it sometimes burns. Maybe it's just me. You don't really need anything to be prepared for. I usually just go and do it. :]

You don't need to put anything in it so do leave it natural. It doesn't have to be clean.
No it doesn't need to be clean, just leave it down and make sure you didn't put any products on before hand. Also, make sure you don't scratch your head at all! Doing that can cause the relaxer to burn your scalp very badly.
Your hair should do some breathing exercises before going. I heard it can be pretty scary for some types of hair.

Using an at home hair relaxer kit?

I am Caucasian but have super curly hair, I was wondering if it would be ok too use an at home hair relaxer kit. I bought one for African American women, m hair is also coarse so I thought it would help my hair get straight and smooth after I used a flat iron. Any opinions/ suggestions?Using an at home hair relaxer kit?
same girl! well im mixed, but my hair is just like yours. i use the african american relaxer too, and let me tell you, dont be afraid to really use it. use exactly as much as it says, because a little less doesnt last long at ALL. a good one should last 4-6 months. to get best results, i would suggest going to a salon, but at-homes ones can work well too.Using an at home hair relaxer kit?
OMG.........DON';T DO IT. My ex- brother-in-law is Caucasian and has really curly hair. He thought it would be a great idea to put a home relaxer on his hair that was made for African Americans (Bad Idea). LOLOL.... His hair came out looking like straw and hay ahahah...it was ridiculous. I never laughed so hard before in my life. It had no weight to it ahahaha just thinking about it makes me crack up laughing. He looked like a scarecrow BBAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA.....
AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN YOU SHOULD NOT BECAUSE YOUR HAIR CAN BE FLAT IRON

    BUT IF YOU REALLY DESIRE

THEN I RECOMMEND YOU DO IT AT THE SALON

AND USE ALL OLIVE OIL AND ALTER EGO PRODUCTS

EVEN IF YOU DONT WANT SOMETHING SO HARSH LIKE A RELAXER THEN YOU SHOULD TRY A TEXTURIZER

IT JUST SOFTEN YOUR HAIR AND MAKE IT MORE MANAGABLE

    AND IT STRAIGTEN TOO
They work well.I use one maybe once a year after I get tired of my perm and it does Straighten your hair well.

olive oilWhat is the best hair relaxer for use for a swimmer to use?
A realxer with chlorine water is bad news! I dont care what kind u try its gonna break off, im with dede, im growing out my relaxer, havent done any heat or chemical and my hair is so much longer and stronger now! There is no good relaxer out there that wont break your hair off when you swim. If u must relax go to your beautician and get a chlorine shampoo and condidtioner and yea, wear a swim cap.
i was told to ALWAYS wear a swim cap with my relaxer in chlorinated pools. i would try that and ask your beautician what he/she would suggest.
Keep your hair natural, NO CHEMICALS! You can wash and condition it everyday without breakage.

What would happen if i use just for me hair relaxer?

yes its a girl relaxer but i want to know what would it do for my type of hair fry it , make it straight what!!!!

    http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii259鈥?/a>

i need help im runing out of things and i dont want this type of hair i want straight down hair. What would happen if i use just for me hair relaxer?
Rather straighten it, I doubt that you will have the patience to relax the growing part every 4-5weeks. Just get a deep cleansing shampoo, a shampoo for your hair type or hair purpose of style, a TREATMENT mask tube, pot or sachets(straightening can really weaken ones hair over time), 1 thermal protector and 1 straightener, and one hand hair dryer. CheersWhat would happen if i use just for me hair relaxer?
I don't think it will straighten it the way you think. It looks thick, but not course, so it would probably only fry it and frazzle it out.

If youu don't want thicker hair, do not thin your hair. It will only come back thicker- trust me.

The best thing to do would be to go to a stylist and ask them the best course of action.
    uhh

    get it thinned.

then straighten it if that doesnt help.

Can karatin hair relaxer cause you too lose hair?

I did karitin in my hair about 6 months ago and my hair is coming out in chunks :/Can karatin hair relaxer cause you too lose hair?
Iam not sure exactly which relaxer you tried. I had gone for Keratin straightening treatment by Global Keratin and did not face any hair loss problem. It was a temporary straightening technique that lasted for 3 months after that i was so impressed with the result that I got it done again and i can see the difference in the texture of my hair. Since this treatment by Global Keratin is based on the natural protein Keratin my hair has become more healthy and strong than before. Can karatin hair relaxer cause you too lose hair?
Is it coming out now or has it been coming out over the 6 month period. Most keratin treatment last 3-4 months with the right products, so your hair might be weak now since the extra keratin is gone and you're still over processing it.

Over doing keratin treatments can make hair hard instead of strong, but the time frame you're giving you probably have a different problem.
Is it BREAKING off,or do you mean FALLING OUT,as in from the bulb/root????

If it's coming out from the scalp/bulb..it *may* be something else..but yes, relaxers can cause severe breakage sometimes.
Any relaxer/perm can cause your hair to fall out. If it's too strong, that's exactly what will happen. Or if it's not taken care of properly.

What else does precise hair relaxer other than straightens hair and deep conditions?

precise hair relaxersWhat else does precise hair relaxer other than straightens hair and deep conditions?
Nothing else, that's exactly what it does, straightens hair and conditions while it straightens. It's a decent product though.

  • What kind of hair relaxer should i use to make my hair straight?

i have thick hair and when i grow it out it get curly/wavy. i need something to make it straight.plzz nd thnkxWhat kind of hair relaxer should i use to make my hair straight?
    Do you have ethnic hair?

If you have ethnic hair, get a no lye relaxer. Apply it all over in small sections, and continuosly smooth the hair(pull it straight) Same if you are only doing the roots. BUT only leave it on as long as the box says or it WILL fall out.

If you have caucasion hair, You shouldnt use a relaxer. Go to the Salon and get a reverse perm.

    Hope this helped.

JillWhat kind of hair relaxer should i use to make my hair straight?
For thick hair thats really curly, make sure they use Sodium Hydroxide, as its one of the strongest formula for straightening salons use.

Since your hair is thick, and curly/wavy, and maybe Not like the '; african-amercans hair'; you could get it relaxed with ammonium thioglycolate ( sp? ) OR

for greater strength straighening, use Guanidine Hydroxide.

Guanidine hydroxide relaxers are referred to as the ';no-lye'; relaxers and they tend to be less damaging than sodium hydroxide relaxers.

    * When I say african-american hair, i mean the thick, really curly hair.

Not anything bad, but thats the only thing that i could thing to describe that hair type =)

Kay, so in order of strength, 3=being strongest, 1=weakest:

    1.)Sodium Hydroxide,

    2.)Guanidine Hydroxide

    3.) Ammonium Thioglycolate
go ahead and get a relaxer so that you get effed up black girl hair:)

What exactly is hair relaxer and what does it do?

A relaxer is a chemical for mainly African American hair, used to straighten the roots of our hair when it grows because its very frizzy and non manageable. If she has gone through puberty at least a year ago. Before puberty and in that first year the hair is actually really weak and would not be able to stand up to a relaxer without a lot of breakage. Hair changes in different stages of your life. So in general I say no. But because her brain is not developed (the human brain isn't fully developed until 19 and for 12 is much less) the ability to get brain damage is really high from breathing in the chemicals. This would not show up for a number of years though. Make sure she is in a well ventilated area and I advise you to have her hold a towel over her nose.
    no not at all.

    i got my hair

    relaxed when i was

    10 or 11. lol

    my mom just got

    really tired of my

    hair being all wavy

    and nasty lookin'
    That sounds just like me.

I started getting my relaxers when i was around 12 or 13.

Nothing wrong with it. It's just a hair treatment.
nope. I'm a mixed child. I had my first one at 10. As long as the kid is willing to do the upkeep then i say go ahead.
Not really. just make sure youre hair doesnt look 2 grown up 4 u so get like a cute little haircut before you fe it relaxed
no but just make sure you go to the salon regularly so it doesn't start to break
i don't know but i wish i did cause i need mine done

If I'm alergic to hair dye will I be alergic to Hair Relaxer?

The title pretty much explains it. I have thick wavy hair and I bought a box of pink hair relaxer. I'm alergic to hair dye, will I be alergic to hair relaxer? If I'm alergic to hair dye will I be alergic to Hair Relaxer?
    not necessarily, different ingredients...

There is an allergy strand test for both color and relaxers.

I suggest you follow the manufacturers directions to do the strand test.

See what the results of that are before you apply to your whole head and have a major allergic reaction. If I'm alergic to hair dye will I be alergic to Hair Relaxer?
Chances are, you might very well be. However, the best way and only way to tell is to test it. Towards the back of your head, in the middle section (where it's not visible if you part it, or put in a pony tail) test about a square inch of hair.

Depending on the outcome, you could tell if you are or not.
The ingredients in hair colour (not dye) are quite different to the relaxer. You shouldn't be allergic to that.

However, that being said, you should not take a chance here. You should do a patch test. That is, you apply just a tiny amount of the product (size of a dime) to a patch of skin, cover with a band-aid, and wait to see what happens. Usually, this is on the inside of the elbow, since it's more sensitive there.

Because the relaxer is usually quite caustic, it may burn the skin if left on for very long. If you sense any burning or itching, remove it immediately. I should think that if you don't notice anything after 2-3 hours, you should be alright. They usually recommend 24 hours to be sure, but it won't be on your hair and scalp for that long.

I would question why you want to use a relaxer if you have wavy hair! How lucky you are!! I hope some day you will realize this.

Is there anything I can use to repair my hair, after a very bad hair relaxer treatment?

I used a relaxer just recently. My hair is falling out slowly and it feels so nasty. I can't even straighten it, it's frizzier and not even soft whatsoever now. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I don't know what else to do. I probably did the relaxer wrong, since I did it by myself. HELPHELPHELP!!!!!!!!Is there anything I can use to repair my hair, after a very bad hair relaxer treatment?
sounds like real damage. i'd consider a short business woman type hair cut just for a place to start growing healthy hair.Is there anything I can use to repair my hair, after a very bad hair relaxer treatment?
Sunsilk hair mask work great... Good luck!!!
You've stripped your hair of moisture, it sounds like its over processed.... I have an arsenal of products to ward off damage, you'll need a few leave ins, like oils and creams. Don't use anything with petroleuem or mineral oil, you'll need real moisture like water and something to hold and seal it in, creams and oils. A few good conditioners, I use Soft Sheen's Hiprotect reconstructor and Nutriment along with an ultra moisturizing conditioner, Paves Undamaged goods conditioning milk, works wonders. The best thing I can tell you is condition, deep condition it every two days for about two weeks, no shampoo whatsoever for at least two or three weeks. Use a hair cream everyday, sleep with a satin cap at night to reduce dryness, oil your strands at night..... do everything you can to put the moisture back in, or you will risk extreme breakage within the next month or so.

And never, as a tip, never put relaxer on previously relaxed strands, use a filler.
yeah i just went through the whole damaged hair bit myself. I had to cut it all off into one of those short spikey cuts, but in the meantime while i was waiting for it to grow out enough to cut it I had to use alot of things to soften the damamge and repair my hair. I used Main n tail Deep conditioning shampoo and conditioner 8$ for both. And 3 times a week I used Cholestoral extreem damage 4$ with a hot dryer or aftre a hot shower. used the shampoo and conditioner every day, cholestoral treatment 3 times a week and after every wash i used ION leave in deep moisture conditioner spray 4$. Doing this treatment made my hair grow fast also and the new hair that grew was better than ever.

    Hope this helps.
honestly its gross but it works so good, mix a half cup of real may with half cup of real butter and one egg.
well i don't know what you can do about it besides waiting for it to grow out but relaxers are like perms they wear off after a few months. I got a relaxer too and it didnt do anything my hair is just as poofy and frizzy and now what i do is put it up in a pony tail then put a thick headband on. hope this helps
i would do a hot oil treatment.
You need it cut off, nothing is going to repair it, I dont even knwo why they make At home kits for this. Sodium Hydroxide is nothing to mess around with. Please, no more at home relaxers.

    How effective is hair relaxer?

I want to straighten my hair, but a flat iron won't work. So my friend told me about hair relaxer, but I have several questions.

1.How water proof is the relaxer? (I am on a swim team and swim everyday)

2.Can you do it at home or do you need to go to a hair stylist?

3.Not to be racist, but how well will it work on a white person's hair. (I heard it could only work for African Hair)How effective is hair relaxer?
I am mixed, mostly white but with curly hair. (Not kinky hair) A few years ago I had a relaxer put in my hair. It worked really well. Very waterproof! But I will never do it again. When my hair grew out half my hair was straight %26amp; half was curly. It looked stupid. I had to straighten my hair ever day just like I did before getting the relaxer.

If you decide to do it, you HAVE to test your hair first!!! Cut a piece in the back that won't be noticeable. Put it on a sheet of foil %26amp; put the relaxer chemical on it. If it doesn't destroy your hair you can use it. (By destroying your hair I mean take a couple pieces of the cut hair and pull them. If they break easily or look like gum when it is stretched)

    Good luck.

  • How can I undo a hair relaxer?

I relaxed my hair like a week ago, and it fried my hair.....now it's curly in some areas and straight as a board in others...is there anything I can do to fix it without drying it out anymore? How can I undo a hair relaxer?
Cut it off. Cannot reverse a perm. Just conditon it really well %26amp; keep it moist. Not sure on ur hair type. How can I undo a hair relaxer?
    A relaxer is a process that permanently changes the structure of the hair, it cannot be reverted. To get back your natural hair you would have to allow it to grow out and cut off all relaxed hair. In the meantime try to enjoy your new look. Trim off the porous ends and do weekly deep condition treatments. If you desire curls do roller sets with smaller rollers. If you want it straighter do roller set with larger rollers and then wrap your hair. Just have fun%26gt;
Sorry you can't the best thing you can do is cut it out, condition it and grow it out, if your hair was long, buy a wig, let maintenance.
a relaxer is better known in its infancy as a permanent. why? because it's straightens or in your case damages the hair the product is applied to permanently. All you can do is to wait for it to grow out while you repair it with protein treatments and conditioning and if you're brave cut it all off.
i made that mistake last year(april 05)the very minute after i relaxed my hair i was upset because i knew all along i wanted to go natural so 2 weeks later i got braids and grew it out that way, i kept braids in for a little over a year and now it's been almost 2 years, i don't recommend everyone getting braids after relaxing, it can severely break off hair but i know how wear them and what to put in my hair. either cut it or wear braids for a while, if you go to a salon they might be able to fix your issue for you(it might be worth the money)
    Sorry, you cant.
cut it off or let grow out

    ..
Hair relaxers chemically change the structure of your hair so you cannot undo it. Growing it out is your best option. You can try Infusium 23 for dry damaged hair for some reliev. It makes the TOP3 best list! See this source for why. http://www.beautyqa.com/

How do you give yourself a good hair relaxer?

1)when you relax try very hard to only do the roots(if previously relaxed)

2)wash with a neutralizer until you see no more pink.

3)deep condition your hair with a reconstructor after

    4) an after the reconstructor use a moisturizing deep conditioner

    5) do a roller set instead of blow drying

    7) to keep nice deep condition weekly

    8) moisturize with a water based moisturizer and seal with an oil everydayHow do you give yourself a good hair relaxer?
They are all really the same, they are all chemicals that damage your hair the same way that pretty much offer the same results. You either pick Lye or No-Lye. No-lye leaves your hair dull and it leaves back drying particles.

The person who said go to sally's is right.. check out this, its a relaxer mixed with Silk protein and Olive oil http://www.sallybeauty.com/olive-oil-Rel鈥?/a>How do you give yourself a good hair relaxer?
I found the best answer for more than a decade of trying to be cheap my hair kept breaking and wouldn't look like the girl on the box for more than a day. Run to your nearest domincan hair salon their products and application process is the best:)
go to Sally Beauty Supply, they have an easy straight, no it doesnt make your hair straight it just calms down the hair and the frizzyness......but if u do straighten your hair, it helps make the straightening better.

What is a good hair relaxer for really wavy blonde hair?

I would never use a relaxer in Caucasian hair. They are formulated specifically for ethnic hair and can seriously damage hair that it's not made for.

If you really want to get rid of the waves, see if a salon specialist would be willing to use a perm to straighten your hair. The processing solution can be applied to your hair in small sections and it can be combed until the processing time is up, then rinsed and neutralized. It will not remove all the wave, but it will remove most of it =)

Anyone know where I can purchase Salon Exclusive hair relaxer at?

I get mine awal-mart and it is great..it works for me.lol..Anyone know where I can purchase Salon Exclusive hair relaxer at?
DONT DO IT! youll burn your hair beyond belief. salon products are roughly twice the strength of public products, so extreme skill and speed need to be used in order for them to be used with predictable, stable results. aside from giving you a warning, try ebay or another online product retailer, Mizani has a great relaxer when used properly, however i doubt a non-stylist would be able to use it properly. save your hair and bite the bullet and just get it done properly at a salon. I cannot stress enough that texture services NEED to be done in a salon. more so than color. relaxers melt your hair, then harden it back up into a striaght configuration. not on long enough, itll still be curly, on too long and you wont have any hair left after the rinse. you need to work fast and know exactly when to take it off. stylists are trained in such things, the average person wont be able to do this properly. you'll probably be slower then a stylist too, so where you first apply will be more processed then where you finnished, so you risk having half over relaxed, half under relaxed hair, not a good look. if you do this yourself, PLEASE start in the back and work it through everywhere else aside from the front hairline, let it process for 3-5 minutes, then go through the front. the front hair is finer and more sensitive to chemicals so it doesnt need as much processing. BE CAREFUL.

Hair relaxer/neutraliser has turned my silver rings brown what do I do?

I was relaxing my sons hair and I think it was the neutraliser that turned my silver rings brassic what can I do to make them silver again please? thankyou....Hair relaxer/neutraliser has turned my silver rings brown what do I do?
It sounds like it's oxidised the silver.. There's generally not much you can do if this is the case apart from polish them like crazy in hopes of lifting the tarnishing off a bit. However, it might not have actually permanently oxidised your ring, it's hard to know without knowing what's in the hair relaxer. I would recommend asking a jeweller about it, take a list of the chemicals in the relaxer with you. Chances are they could give your rings a really good polishing and make them sparkle like new again

Will an at-home hair relaxer/straightener make curly hair wavy?

I have quite thick curly hair and would much prefer wavier hair, i heard from someone that an at-home chemical relaxer (obviously used safely with all the correct precautions) could achieve this, can anyone tell me if this would work or not.

Thanks. =)Will an at-home hair relaxer/straightener make curly hair wavy?
Well, I have been relaxing my hair with an at home straightener, since I was 14 years old (I'm 20 now).

    First:

I must first say that you have to be careful with any kinds of chemicals you put in your hair; it's all about how strong your own hair is to handle the product.

    Second:

You have to know the type/ texture of your own hair. Do you have fine, straight, wavy, coarse, thin or full hair? You said you have curly hair, so the box of the perm/relaxer should show you what the outcome will be on your type of hair!

    Third:

Make sure that you have the right kind of relaxer! There are different kinds not only for ethnicity, but also for types of hair. Make sure that the kind you use will be conducive for your hair... you know personalize it :-)

    Fourth:

Before you try this on your entire head ( I'm assuming this is your first time) take about a quarter inch lock of your hair (from the center of your head- a place where no one can see) and test the relaxer first. Allow it the max time to develop and wash it out. This is for two reasons.

    1) Because you want to see if the relaxer gives your hair a wavy look or not ( so you don't mess up your entire head.... lol)

    2) Because you want to see if you have a negative reaction to the relaxer.. (hair falls out, scalp burning, rash.... sorry but I gotta keep it real)

    Fifth:

If you're really feeling uneasy about this at home job, then go to a hair dressor, or have you considered a flat iron? Hope I helped :-)Will an at-home hair relaxer/straightener make curly hair wavy?
dont do it! it makes it staight but it completly makes ur hair yuck. it changes the texture and makes it hard to come and it will break easily. if you really want it done have it done by a professional. even than i dont suggest it. try blowing it staight and than using a flat iron. dont for get to use a blowdrying hair lotion and hair serum when doing this.
I used an in-home straightener chemical system

and it fried my hair so bad

my hair fell out in chunks.
it will work. just don't keep it on too long or it will make your hair straight.
I dunno but when you find out let me know :)
no you wouldent evan have any hair left to be straight
yes.. they're great.. use just for me brand.

  • What is the best hair relaxer to use on my curly hair? Something that I can do myself?

try not to use a relaxer, it fries curly hair, big time and causes a chemical burn if not done right. Try the ceramic straight iron with an oil made by, frizz ease. My daughter does this and she makes her frizzy ringlet hair into straight, silky, and bouncy hair that looks so healthy. Try it, you may look as good as she does. Good luck in your ventures. What is the best hair relaxer to use on my curly hair? Something that I can do myself?
It's always best to get someone else to do it for you-a friend maybe-since it's hard to do it right by yourself especially the first time.

Try a kids relaxer, but don't do no-lye.What is the best hair relaxer to use on my curly hair? Something that I can do myself?
dark and lovely kit,it's simple to follow the step/instruction.
First of all I don't suggest you do relaxers they're very damaging. If you are going to get a relaxer do the most mild one It should probably be done by a beautician. Believe me I know. I had one bad relaxer and all my hair broke off.

you should go back to your stylist and let her put some sea salt oil or something on it, thats what my stylist did when i got a relaxer burn, your hair should be fine after she puts the oil in it and combs it out just a little greasy/oily, but if it happens again you need to go back to your stylist immediately and get it removed or else it could cause breakage and serious damage.Hope i helped!!!I have hair relaxer scalp burn on large areas of my head, they are hard and alot of my hair is stuck to the b?

Is this hair relaxer safe to use?

I have some ORS olive oil relaxer, no-lye. i bought it at a store last week and i don't know if relaxer expires or not. The only thing i saw on the box that looked like a date said 8/2006. Is that when it was made? Or is that just the date the product was first created? im confused :( i hope i can still use it because its all i have and i need a relaxer. Is this hair relaxer safe to use?
i wouldnt use any dye, relaxer or perming product thats over a year old.

you could call the company and see when it was made (they can tell by one of the numbers on the box usually)

or take it back to the store and get one with a date thats 2008/2009.

also...it wont wreck your hair by usuing expired stuff but most likely just come out uneven or not work at all

*edit* the ones who say it'll make ur hair FALL OUT have no clue what theyre talking about, breakage possibly, but not fall out....i hate when people use that as a scare tacticIs this hair relaxer safe to use?
i wouldn't recommend using it, i don't think that the date it was made would be on the box, but you don't want to put it in your hair because it may cause it to fall out which wouldn't be good at all.

if you take it back to the store i'm sure you can get another type of relaxer and/or you can check and see if all the rest of the boxes of that same relaxer have the same date on iti.

    good luck!
take it bac!!! and get ur money bac asap....

idk who was behind the counter... if they won't take it back, REPORT THEM...

u can really damage ur hair with bad chemicals... they shouldn've sold u that.....

n check dates when u shop. I always check the expiration date, esp on sale items, sometimes they're a couple of months expired if u go to save a lot or places like that...
I personally wouldnt trust it. =)

I am mixed with black and white, and i am 13.

If your desperate, I use One N Only (i think) from Sallys and its $7.00.

And it last like 3 months.

So, I hope I helped:) %26amp; message me with your feedback
any relaxer without lye is good.

You should go back to the store and check if that is the expiry date, because if it is, your hair can end up falling out. dont risk it.
I wouldn't trust it. Buy a different one if it says its expired

HAIR RELAXER- I have cuuuuurly Caucasian hair, and I want to put a relaxer in it. What are results/cost/tips?

I really want to do this but I need some help to make the decision.

    PLEASE don't say ';I shouldn't do it';

My hair is VERY curly, but I am 100% white.HAIR RELAXER- I have cuuuuurly Caucasian hair, and I want to put a relaxer in it. What are results/cost/tips?
You want to get a Just for Me relaxer, you can get it at Wal Mart and they are like $8 . They are made for children so it won't be so harsh on your hair. Make sure you use the protection packet that comes with it and put it on your ears and all around your hair line. Then just follow the directions and you should be fine. For best results don't wash your hair for a couple of days before you relax it. Then after relaxing it avoid swimming pools for about a week. Good Luck!!

sorry don't know any names but walk through Brixton market and every other shop sells it.
Mrs WentworthMiller - are you going to Vidal Sassoon? Getting it cut, coloured and dyed for 拢50 or doing it all yourself?

You seem a little hair confused and I am worried that by all these questions that you are asking you may end up with a disaster on your hands. Check out the below site, there are also lots of black hair care magazines that can steer you in the right direction.

Brixton is excellent for stores selling hair care products - you just need to walk down Brixton High Road - as is Hackney, Walthamstow, Leyton, Upton Park, East Ham, Ladbroke Grove. London probably has the best choice in Europe for black hair care products, there are shops anywhere you see a black community.

Just do a little homework (more than Yahoo Answers), take some time and don't rush into anything (like Vidal Sassoon) as once it's done, with relaxing and colouring, if its not want you want its very hard to put right.
Brixton market is best for these products

The front side of my hair looks like it is clinched and always contacting my scalp after applying hair relaxer?

Does any one know what mistake happened during relaxing process. and how to avoid in future?

thanks and regards The front side of my hair looks like it is clinched and always contacting my scalp after applying hair relaxer?
When you say clinched do you mean sticking to your scalp? If that's the case then you are either leaving the perm in too long or the perm is too strong for your hair type.

Looking for a hair shampoo/conditioner to replace hair relaxer?

I use a hair relaxer about once every 2-3 months. I really don't enjoy it so I'm wondering if anyone knows a good product I could use to keep my hair straight. I have normal hair that isn't coarse. So far I've tried garnier (sp?) and Head and Shoulders: Smoothe and Silky. I've been using H%26amp;S because it works best so far. Any suggestions?Looking for a hair shampoo/conditioner to replace hair relaxer?
Matrix has a wonderful product called SLEEK LOOKS. Buy the shampoo conditioner and the styling products, and your hair will be as straight as if you had a relaxer. Sold in most salons, and your stylist should teach you how much to use.Looking for a hair shampoo/conditioner to replace hair relaxer?
Pantene is a really good conditioner. It makes your hair soft and it moisturizes at the same time.

    Try it.
Creme of Nature Shampoo and Conditioner
try Doo Gro shampoo and conditioner.

Where does a Black girl get a good hair relaxer for the first time in Fort Wayne In?

i dont know where to go please help me find a good place i feel so dumbWhere does a Black girl get a good hair relaxer for the first time in Fort Wayne In?
Im not black, but my best friend is, and she uses this leave-in conditioner from Tresemme. Its called Tresemme anti-sponge combing cream. It doesn't leave her hair really dry, and its not more that $5 at Walgreens or Walmart. Also she uses Pantene relaxed and natural intensive moisturizing shampoo. I sound like a commercial or something, but get a conditioner with panthenol in it, because it will make your hair softer and smoother. Hope that helped a little! :)

  • Hair relaxer and how to tie a scarf ?

I was wondering is anyone knows what would happen if i used hair relaxer? also, does anyone know how to tie a scarf or something on your head and you twist the material to create a bun?Hair relaxer and how to tie a scarf ?
your hair will straighten and if you leave it in long enuff or don't neutralize it will eventually fall out.

You need to buy a pretty long hair scarf, people usually got to a fabric store and buy a yard or 2 of fabric they like. fold the triangle, wrap scarf around your head, then twist the material until its like a long ponytail. Then twist into a chignon.

Will a hair relaxer make my curly/wavy hair straight?

I have curly/wavy hair. Will a hair relaxer get rid of the frizz and make it straight? And for how long? Will a hair relaxer make my curly/wavy hair straight?
Absolutely DONT touch relaxers! Im thankful iv never had to think about it, i have pretty straight/wavy hair like you and thats the most beautiful kind of hair. My sister has superrrr curly hair (which i love, its so different) but she relaxed it once and its never been the same, she did it professionally, it fryed, dryed and frizzed it majorly. Seriously, dont touch the stuff, im sure ur hair is beautiful, but its soo not worth it. If you really want it to be straight, get a good straightening iron like the Chi from any salon. Will a hair relaxer make my curly/wavy hair straight?
I got a relaxer on my curly hair once and it actually got CURLIER, believe it or not! They're supposed to make your hair straighter, but they don't always work. From what I've heard from others, a lot can go wrong! Also, the damage it does to your hair could actually make it FRIZZIER!

Should i use a hair relaxer at home or at a salon?

i dont have african american hair its just really curly and i want it to be just wavy. should i use the hair relxer for african american hair (cuz my hair is thick can b REALLY hard to handle) or should i just go to a salon and get it done?Should i use a hair relaxer at home or at a salon?
You can go to a beauty supply and get a regular perm, instead of rolling your hair put the solution on and keep

combing your hair for the time it says then when its done, put the neutralizer on and comb it also. This should work for you. I use it on my clients and it works! Good luck!Should i use a hair relaxer at home or at a salon?
If your hair is damaged, you should go to a salon to avoid overprocessing.
If I were you I would go to a hair salon. If you don't know what you are doing then you might damage your hair. And you can always get tips from your stylist.
You should the appropriate relaxer done that would be best for your hair type and the look you are going for. A salon tech will determine that best! Try a salon that works with Rusk Anti- Curl. It is gentle, quick and when done properly will not take out all the curl. My clients have loved this product- very versatile.

Why would a hair relaxer cause my natural hair to go being thick and wavy to curly/ thin?

I honestly tried to go natural and not use any chemicals in my hair, but it was getting too difficult, and I did not know how to maintain it well. It was wavy/thick instead of afro textured. So, I gave up and put a relaxer on it and now I have noticed that my hair (when air dryed) has a very loose curl pattern which is easier to comb and manage than when it was thick. Why would it do this.. I did not use a texturizer. I would also like to know if I can maintain it this way??Why would a hair relaxer cause my natural hair to go being thick and wavy to curly/ thin?
relaxers are made to keep the frizz out of your hair and make it easier to manage. to maintain this make sure you keep your hair away from heat products. you should also touch up the roots of your hair with relaxer every 4-6 months be careful not to over do it though because the chemicals can be very damaging, have fun with your relaxed hair!!Why would a hair relaxer cause my natural hair to go being thick and wavy to curly/ thin?
the molecules in curly hair are arranged in clusters. relaxers break down the bonds between these molecules and arrange them in a straight line. therefore, the hair strand becomes straight or at least loses some of the curl.

What is a natural hair relaxer......When I grow my hair I get that surfer curly doo lol?

There aren't any natural hair relaxers (unless you count using a straightening iron, along with straightening hair shampoo, and blowdrying it straight every morning ';natural';).

Only chemicals will permanently relax your hair, and it isn't cheap.

For a cheaper option, why don't you just try keeping it cropped and short, so it ends up being tight curls around your head instead?

Relaxers dry out your hair so make sure you follow it with a good deep conditioning treatment and give it plenty of moisture.

My advice is to research relaxers and how to take care of them, so you can minimize this problem.Does a hair relaxer make your hair feel like straw, what can i do to fix it?

Chemicall relaxers can have different straitening agents. First are the Sodium Hydroxise (lye) relaxers. Then you have the ';no lye'; relaxers. These would be the ones that use an alternative straigtening agent: Lithium, Potassium, Calcium hydroxide or Guanidine Carbonate. The degree of damage even though they are different chemicalls, is the same. It is just a way to fool the uninformed into thinking that the relaxer is less damaging because is a ';no Lye'; relaxer.

Then you have the Thioglycate ralaxers (or Thio). Thio is a milder chemical.

Some of these chemicals like sodium hydroxide or sodium bromate are actually used in sink cloggers because it eats hair. That is why relaxers are so damaging if they are applied incorrectly or overused. Hope that helps. What are the ingredients of hair relaxer?
lye relaxers contain sodium hydroxide as the active ingredient.

Has anyone used baka natural hair relaxer before?

I heard about this relaxer that it does not break the bonds of the hair as it only relaxes it, has anyone used it? is it true? or is it just a gimmick to get our money since a lot of black sisters have started to turn away from chemical hair relaxers? I am trying to stay away from chemical hair relaxers and just looking for alternate healthier options for my hair to become more manageable.Has anyone used baka natural hair relaxer before?
i suggest nooo cuzz i did it and well yea some partas are straight ans some curly so now i defanitlly have to straighten every day :( but if u blow dry all the tiem or just never let it dry alone it should be fine i must say its easier to styleHas anyone used baka natural hair relaxer before?
My experience using the (baka) natural-laxer plus was good, just like they stated...makes the hair more managable, less tangled, soft and lusterous. It's natural alright! But it does not make your hair straight like a regular perm. I would only recommend this product to those with natural hair.

i agree with the lady above a defo for a no no no....its best to use what you know....also do google search on best reported hair relaxers i use DARK n LOVELY it leaves you hair smooth soft and fresh and very moisturized...depends on your hair type.....

Do a search you will get reports of what millions of people rate the best relaxer

    type something along the lines of ';what is the best hair relaxer for dry damaged hair....or best relaxer rated by public not to break hair etc....';

or even better ask yahoo people which relaxer they suggest and why
No. It's a advertisement. I used Optimum Hair relaxer and it stated it was redesign to help prevent brekage, but yet I still got breakage (I followed the directions closely).

You should either stick to what you know works (like the above two post) or go to your hair dresser. In the end relaxers basically have the same type of treatment process; however, a few may vary with more conditioners and creames. It's also about the process that you do (timing, hair stregth, type of hair you have, etc).

Personally when I do relaxers I actually do the apply a type of coating on my hair, apply the relaxer, rinse the relaxer out, and then use a deep conditioner, rince and continue with the steps. That's what I do. I have to use a relaxer because if I don't my hair gets super curly and harder to manage. In fact I think my hair comes out more without a relaxer than with one. Good Luck.
I've used the Baka Beauty Natural-Laxer and it is not a true substitute for a chemical straightener. I wear my hair natural and investigated Baka as an alternative to a texturizer for manageability.

I discovered that it was a messy procedure. The Baka clay was difficult to shampoo out and smelled funny. There is not enough Baka shampoo or conditioner provided to adequately cleanse or condition the hair after the clay. After the entire situation was finished, my hair was indeed more manageable. It was slight and would definitely require multiple applications to be worthwhile. Having medium length hair, the price tag for the appropriate amount would be near ridiculous.

After some research on NaturallyCurly.com, however, I found that I could recreate this by applying Queen Helene's Mud Masque to my hair instead. At near 2.50$ a bottle, it became a much more reasonable solution. (Also, the clay has a very nice clarifying property--something that I find exceptionally helpful when dealing with hard water here in Germany.)

If you are looking for a relaxer replacement, this would not be the solution unless you are prepared to attempt the procedure NUMEROUS times. Even then, I believe it would be most like a texturizer and would not provide you with an easy to maintain straight look.
I did when I was transitioning from my curly perm, and It loosed my curls. No notice of damage of any sort. I still have a bit of the product and may used it on my natural hair now.

Does anyone know of a gentle adult hair relaxer? And are children relaxers more gentle than adult relaxers?

Are there possibly any natural chemical-free relaxers you can buy at a local store? ThanksDoes anyone know of a gentle adult hair relaxer? And are children relaxers more gentle than adult relaxers?
Guess what there are no chemical free relaxers. Press your hair.

What's the best hair straightner and hair relaxer for frizzy, thick curly hair?

Where can I get it, how much does it cost and is it good? What's the best hair straightner and hair relaxer for frizzy, thick curly hair?
Try Glatt. It's wonderful. I'm not sure about the price, though. What's the best hair straightner and hair relaxer for frizzy, thick curly hair?
get a WIDE chi you can get it at ulta it CAN be up to 200 dollars
You sound like you need super strength because you have thick hair.

You also sound however like you are new to relaxing your hair.

You need not just consider your hair texture but must also think about your scalp.

Hair straighteners can ofter burn your scalp and not only damage but cause your hair to fall out.

If you can afford it go to a salon or a friend on your family who you trust to apply it for you.

If you cannot afford it maybe you can raise money by babysitting or volunteering to help clean the local salon in exchange for getting your hair done.

Hair relaxing can give great results, they can also be harmful and devastating if done incorrectly.
In all honesty, avacado oil. Fruit and vegetable oils fuse to the hair shafts and weigh them down, pulling the curls out naturally without destroying the hair with chemicals. I found this out on accident when I used a shampoo that contained avacado oil. I was devastated when I notice my curls were GONE! My emergency trip to the salon taught me that fruit and vegetable oils can uncurl hair like a straightener without a second thought.

Apparently ALL fruit and veggie oils have this property but avacado seems to be the best at it. Garnier Fructis products contain avacado oil but it can also be purchased (link below).

On the chemical side, KMS Flat Out Hot Pressed Spray works wonders on curly hair when used in conjunction with a straightening iron. For more permanent results I guess you'd have to get your hair chemically straightened, something I do not have experience with.

    Good luck!

  • What is a good hair relaxer for african american?

    Hi,

I use a No-Lye relaxer. I've always heard that you should use No-Lye, but after researching and using haircare forums. I've found that Lye relaxers may actually be better. But I'm sticking with what I know works best. I use Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Relaxers because I love how soft my hair feels afterwards. And I just love all of the ORS products. It does wonders for helping hair grow and keeping it moisturized. It also helps give your hair great ';swang'; and shine after straightening it, lol. Anyway, I've also used other relaxers such as Creme of Nature. Silk Elements may be a good one. I love silk elements products.

Hope that helpsWhat is a good hair relaxer for african american?
