What is a hair relaxer and can anyone use it?

A hair relaxer ';relaxes'; the natural curl you have in your hair. It generally takes a long time to do at the hairdresser and can be very costly. However, it is not only for African Americans. Depending on the type, anyone can have it done. I did it a couple of years ago and it totally fried my hair. If you're looking for straight hair just go with the CHI flat iron. i'd talk to a salon about it though
It depends on your hair type,and if you have anything ,recently done to your hair chemical wise,like Hair Color or Highlights, if you put another chemical on it will break off your hair, and fall off in chunks.So if you are going to Straighten or Relax your hair ,Do not mix Color with it.Not good on Dry brittle hair.

IT'S THE SAME FORMULA AS A PERM BUT IT DOES THE EXACT OPPOSITE,I USED ONE AND WHEN i WASHED MY HAIR IT DIDN'T STAY STRAIGHT SO i DON'T RECOMMEND USING THEM.
A relaxer is a chemical process that straightens curly, kinky hair. The STORE version is primarily used on African American hair types. A variation of relaxers are available in salons for a variety of other hair types. It comes in a kit that consists of the chemicals which are mixed. The mixture becomes a cream and resembles something similar to cake frosting. Its extremely caustic (can cause burns, injuries to the skin) so imagine what it can do to hair if not used properly. It is then applied to the hair (from roots to end if it is the first time being used OR on the roots-new growth of hair which is still natural but 'needs' to be straightened)





The hair, in essence, is being damaged to a certain degree to achieve a tolerable level of 'a straight' and 'smooth' texture. Once that is done, it is rinsed out and washed with a ph balancing shampoo so that the chemical is being neutralized (the chemical is being washed out).





The popularity is due to the fact that alot of hairstyles feature relaxed hair and many young african american women really have no clue what to do with their hair. Braids, curls and twists are still popular but often times people think its easier to just relax it.
Well i thinlk that a hiar relaxer relaxes your hiar duh! but i don't know if you should use it i mean i heard that alot of chemicals can ruin your hair
